The "Athens of Texas"

From its early days Huntsville was known as the "Athens of Texas" because it was a center of law, education and culture. Known widely as the home of Texas' greatest hero, Sam Houston, Huntsville is filled with historic sites and museums.

Please join us for a tour of one of Texas' most fascinating cities.

The Tour

This tour uses your smart phone (iPhone, Android, Blackberry or similar) or wireless enabled pad computer to guide you to several of Huntsville's most interesting historical and cultural attractions.

The tour begins at the Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center. However, the tour follows a loop, and you may enter it at any point. Each successive page describes a new attraction and provides information about location, parking, hours, and admission charge. A "Directions" button on each page takes you to a Google map, which permits you to obtain directions to the attraction from your current location.

If you do not wish to visit an attraction, simply skip to the next one.

Stops on the Tour

The tour can be accessed by scanning a Microsoft tag on our rack card or signs posted at various locations.

If you using a standard or pad computer, this page appears smaller than normal because it is formatted for a smart phone's smaller screen.
